Player Chatter: Week 12

July 12, 2023
By Matt Rezin

“Player Chatter” is a series consisting of player quotes, thoughts, and feelings from around the league. All current AUDL players were sent a handful of prompts earlier this week designed to be as open-ended as possible. Additionally, players were asked to vote in a single-question, multiple choice survey.

Week 12 Survey Results

What will be the result of New York’s doubleheader road trip out West?

NY wins both games: 36.1 percent of votes
NY beats Colorado, loses to Salt Lake: 47.2 percent of votes
NY loses to Colorado, beats Salt Lake: 2.8 percent of votes
NY loses both games: 13.9 percent of votes

Week 11 Reactions

“Don’t cry Madison, daddy’s here for you.” Josh Klane, Minnesota Wind Chill

Tanner Barcus with the celebration of the year so far as he ices the game vs Madison - a kitten lapping up milk from a bowl.” Tristan Van de Moortele, Minnesota Wind Chill

“When Dylan DeClerck decides he wants to go full villain mode, he’s the scariest defender in the AUDL.” Brandon Matis, Minnesota Wind Chill

“Indy struggled with that Minnesota wind. It's almost like they play indoors or something like that.” Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

Jake Steslicki was fun to watch playing throw-and-go ultimate, my personal favorite. It was also a pleasure to be guarded by him, since he couldn't keep his hands off me or slow me down. On the flip side, he'll always have a 2-0 college record against me (snowy CatFight 2015 and QCTU 2016, that Magnum team was a little busted in hindsight) and I'll probably never get over that. I also understand Vedant Sachdeva tried to get someone to do his chirping for him on Friday when he was home in Chicago, which I can only assume stems from jealousy over the connection I have with Jason Vallee. That's the only thing that makes sense [...]”  Clint McSherry, Pittsburgh Thunderbirds

“This was the hardest week of the season, both with our only doubleheader weekend and having Philly lose to Boston, blowing up my prediction from May that the Glory wouldn't beat another US team. Detroit not winning would be the second biggest storyline. All-in-all, I'm distraught.” Clint McSherry, Pittsburgh Thunderbirds

“Huge statement win from Boston over Philly.” Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

“Very impressed with Boston this week. Seeing them beat Philly again was awesome, and they definitely have the ability to hang with DC. I'm excited to see how the East playoffs shake out.” Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

James Pollard is washed, don’t let the seven goals in the last game trick you. Me skying him at the end of the quarter to remind him he’s mini CJ Colicchio.” CJ Colicchio, Philadelphia Phoenix

On To Week 12

“Atlanta vs. Carolina will be a for-sure game to watch with big playoff implications. This week's in Carolina but I still give Atlanta the advantage” Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

“I hear Chicago is so desperate for players this week that they’re poaching three Sub Zero guys, very cute.” Josh Klane, Minnesota Wind Chill

“Really looking forward to defending my brother Charles in our matchup this week. I’m calling it—he will have zero assists and zero goals.” Kyle Weinberg, Salt Lake Shred

“Great for the league to get the cross divisional matchups with powerhouses.” Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

“I bet that on Friday, Colorado keeps it close but loses to New York by like two. Then on Saturday, the Shred take down New York.” Anonymous Shred Player (verified)

“This weekend's New York road trip looks compelling thanks to the Saturday matchup with Salt Lake. Colorado hasn't been the same since their one-point losses to Salt Lake and Oakland, but having the two remaining undefeated teams face off should make for a good show, potentially even a Championship game teaser. I'm calling Salt Lake over New York. Not that I think New York can't get the win, or that Salt Lake is the better team, but it'd be nice to up-end the narrative that they're some invincible super-team.” Clint McSherry, Pittsburgh Thunderbirds

“Super stoked to watch the back-to-back Oakland vs. LA games. We get to see who's gonna take that third playoff spot out West.” Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

“Looking forward to Philadelphia’s Twitter explain why it’s somebody else’s fault they lost to DC.” Jacob Blackman, Atlanta Hustle

“Parlay of the week: Empire, Growlers, Rush, Flyers, Havoc, Alleycats, Breeze, Wind Chill, Aviators, Empire, Cascades”  Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

Water Cooler

“Flashback to 2022, the Philadelphia Phoenix go 6-6 and share this tweet declaring they will make 2023 Championship Weekend. Since then they have not won a game against any US-based East Division opponents. At least they can celebrate the season knowing they have the second most important trophy in the AUDL, the Commonwealth Cup.” Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

“If Portland had only beaten Colorado in overtime last year, I think things would be a lot different. They’d easily be top five if they had more buy-in” Kyle Weinberg, Salt Lake Shred

Jordan Kerr has my vote for MVP favorite.” Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

“In the ‘Game of the Week’ between Boston and DC an AUDL classic occurred: DC gets a D and calls a timeout to get their O-line on the field. During the same point, Boston gets a D and then calls a timeout to get their O-line back on the field. I can't think of anything more boring for spectators than watching a multiple timeout point. The league should make a rule that only one timeout can be called per point.” Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

Sean McDougall is not getting enough love this season for the year he's having!” Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

“[Prediction:] A winless team gets a win in the final two weeks.” Anonymous Thunderbirds Player (verified)

“Favorite moment of the season so far for me has to be Cam Brock 600 goals.” Anonymous AUDL Player (verified)

“The South is really the only division without a compelling storyline entering the last two weeks. The West has Oakland and LA playing each other twice in games that could decide the final playoff spot, the Central still has three teams playing for two playoff spots and two of them only play each other to finish their seasons, and the East has a three-way fight for the last playoff spot and seeding. The South is just down to seeding, with the Flyers and Atlanta fighting for a bye/to ensure they don't have to fly to Austin.” Clint McSherry, Pittsburgh Thunderbirds
