Van de Moortele is a product of the University of Minnesota, where he won the National Championship in 2016. In 2014, he was selected to play on the U19 USA Team and then was selected to play on the U23 USA Team in 2018. He played a critical role for the Wind Chill as one of the primary handlers on the defensive line and threw three or more assists in seven games in 2024—with two of those performances being at Championship Weekend in Salt Lake City to close out the season.
