The heart of the UFA season has arrived: Rivalry Weekend, packed with more rivalries than any other week this year. Some of them, including the Friday Night Frisbee showcase and one of the most storied interdivisional rivalries in league history, have been circled on the calendar since day one.

New York Empire at Boston Glory | Friday Night Frisbee
Friday, June 5 - 7:00 PM/ET - Watch link
Rivalry Weekend kicks off with a massive Friday Night Frisbee showcase, the biggest matchup of the week. The Friday Night Frisbee showcase, streaming live and free on YouTube, has become the most anticipated game of the season so far with the arrival of Belgian superstar Daan De Marrée. Known for his limitless skillset, it will be fascinating to see what role De Marrée carves out on a New York offensive unit that already leads the league in conversion rate.
Given what we've seen from Alex Atkins through the first part of this season, much of the dynamic will hinge on how Head Coach Anthony Nuñez chooses to structure the roles of Atkins and De Marrée. Atkins has exceeded expectations in a big way, establishing himself an UFA MVP candidate. He has been nearly flawless as a thrower, completing 98.41 percent of his passes with just three incompletions on 189 attempts. That number is even more remarkable given that he ranks among the league's top 10 in deep throws.
The expectation is that Atkins will hold onto the large handler role he's thrived in this season, though De Marrée will inevitably carve out a share of those responsibilities. Still, the bigger opportunity for De Marrée likely lies as a receiver, the same role in which he made his greatest impact a season ago.
De Marrée has the potential to give the team's red zone efficiency a needed boost, and the other major contribution he could make is on the defensive end. In their two matchups against playoff-caliber opponents this season, the Empire managed just seven blocks in each game, an area with clear room for growth. De Marrée showed just how well-rounded he is last year, pairing his offensive production with 19 blocks, and that two-way ability could prove pivotal against his fellow countryman Tobe Decreane and the undefeated Boston Glory.
And yes, there’s yet another reason this game has everyone on the edge of their seats. De Marrée and Decreane, two players with a long, storied history together, will square off in the UFA for the very first time. These are arguably the two best players in the world — the faces of the UFA's new era, now meeting as division rivals. It would be a genuine surprise if we didn't see them matched up one-on-one at some point Friday night, and it’s not just a historic moment, but potentially a difference-making matchup in this game.

Decreane looked better than we’d ever seen him to open the season, but his play has quietly slipped. He’s not a liability, but four throwaways in each of his last three games is a bit concerning coming into a game of this magnitude. He’s posted career-lows in Thrower Adjusted Expected Contribution, Receiver Adjusted Expected Contribution, and Lag Contribution over his last two outings.
But Decreane is just one of the Empire’s problems. Jeff Babbitt has made the most of his revenge games against his former Empire team, shredding them in their only meeting last year with seven goals and nearly 300 receiving yards. Babbitt is currently listed as questionable, but if he ends up being active, he’s one of the most dangerous players on the field Friday.
One Big Number:
4.75 - Babbitt has scored 4.75 goals per game in four career games against New York.
37.7 - Atkins currently leads the league with a Total Adjusted Expected Contribution (Tot-aEC) rating of 37.7. Tot-aEC is a key metric measuring an individual's value based on how their actions impact their team's scoring chances.
Carolina Flyers at DC Breeze
Frday, June 5 - 7:00 PM/ET - Watch link
Two Championship Weekend contenders are set to renew their annual interdivisional rivalry, a matchup that never fails to deliver.
Historically, these two clubs play each other incredibly close: over half of their nine meetings have been decided by a mere two goals or less, including DC’s tight 20-18 victory last season. While the Breeze hold a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series, having claimed three of the last four encounters, it’s Carolina that rolls into this matchup with the hot hand, looking downright dangerous right now.
The Flyers are riding back-to-back blowout wins over an Atlanta Hustle squad that many expected to be the South Division favorite. After losing vital roster pieces prior to 2025, Carolina often looked predictable and one-dimensional last summer. But so far this season, they’re playing like the deep, elite squad we’ve seen in the past, executing a rapid turnaround that has exceeded expectations. To sustain their recent momentum, Carolina will need their rapidly improving offensive unit to find a way through DC's elite defense.
Leading the charge in Carolina’s offensive resurgence is Jacob Fairfax, who looks much more explosive this season. Fairfax is back to being one of the league's most reliable scoring threats, currently ranking seventh in total scores. Now in his tenth year, he appears to be on track for one of the best individual seasons of his career, so the question now is whether he can sustain this elevated level of play as the season rolls on.
Fairfax got an immediate lift on the O-line last week with the addition of Tobias Brooks, who wasted no time jumping into his massive throwing role. This week against DC, Fairfax and Brooks will be joined by two more high-profile newcomers in 2026 Callahan Award winner Zeke Thoreson and Josh Singleton. Thoreson and Singleton should help distribute the receiving workload and take some pressure off of Fairfax, adding depth to a Flyers squad that currently has fewer double-digit goal scorers than both Atlanta and Austin this season.
As Carolina bolsters its roster, DC finds itself trending the other way. The Breeze will again be without Aidan Downey, Cole Jurek, and Jasper Tom, three impactful players who have yet to take the field this season. Star hybrid AJ Merriman is also expected to sit out the Week 7 matchup, while key contributors Gabe Dowd, Coby Loveranes, and Jeff Wodatch have not yet been activated. Should the majority of those players miss the game, their depth will be greatly tested.
One Big Number:
14 - Keep an eye on Brooks going deep to Fairfax, who has hauled in 14 hucks this season, more than anyone else in the league.
5 - With Merriman likely sidelined, keep an eye on Miles Grovic, fresh off a career-best performance across five major statistical categories: nine assists, a +10 plus/minus, 360 throwing yards, an 8.2 Tot-aEC, and a 5.7 Thrower a-EC.
Madison Radicals at Chicago Union
Friday, June 5 - 8:00 PM/ET - Watch link
It’s panic time in Chicago. The Union are teetering on the edge of playoff irrelevance, mirroring the brutal start from Carolina last year.
Like the Flyers, Chicago lost several foundational players in the offseason and has suddenly transformed from a heavyweight into a vulnerable target. A loss this Friday night against Madison cements an 0-4 start—the very same hole Carolina dug themselves into last year before going 7-1 and still falling short of the postseason.
However, Chicago faces a hurdle Carolina never had to clear: a stronger remaining schedule.
Replicating the Flyers’ 7-1 surge feels incredibly far-fetched when you look at what's ahead for the Union. Over their final eight games, they still have to navigate a reinforced AlleyCats squad twice, Madison twice, another clash with Minnesota, and a cross-divisional heavyweight matchup against the New York Empire.
With a gauntlet like that on the horizon, this week's game isn't just important, it is truly do-or-die for Chicago's season.
Their fate this season may ultimately hinge on their defense, the hallmark of this team over the past two years, which has been a shadow of its former self through the early going. Chicago is surrendering 21.67 goals per game compared to just 15.5 over the previous two seasons, and opponents are completing 67.74 percent of their hucks against them this year after connecting on only 49.82 percent in that same span.
Chicago's defense, as it currently stands, looks ill-equipped to slow down a Radicals offense that is clearly trending upward. Madison hit the 20-goal mark against the Wind Chill last week for the first time since 2022, and the unleashing of Pieran Robert has been a major factor. Robert logged eight more points played than anyone else on either team last week, has led Madison in points played in back-to-back weeks, and is making every minute count. He torched Minnesota for eight goals last week and has racked up 12 over his last two games.
Pair his rise with that of Nico Ranhabat, who seems to be setting a new career high on a weekly basis, and Chicago's already thin D-line could be in for a long night.
One Big Number:
5.67 - The most alarming drop-off for Chicago’s defense has come in the blocks department. A team that led the league in blocks per game just last season now sits dead last, generating a mere 5.67 per game.
94.48 - Madison’s completion rate (94.48 percent) is the eighth-highest in the league. The Rads finished last season with the fifth-lowest rate last year (92.03 percent).
Colorado Apex at Salt Lake Shred
Friday, June 5 - 9:00 PM/ET - Watch link
Colorado’s postseason aspirations are hanging by a thread as they head into a brutal final stretch of the schedule: Salt Lake, Oakland, San Diego, Oakland, Seattle, and Oakland.
Can a fierce rivalry matchup with the Shred ignite a season-saving win for Colorado? From Atkins’ unforgettable triple spike to Will Selfridge’s late-game celebrations, these two teams have made every effort to get under each other’s skin over the years in what has become one of the league's bitterest feuds.
The Apex are trending in the right direction, coming off their best performance of the year thanks to the return of focal offensive weapons Quinn Finer and Nanda Min-Fink.
The duo transformed Colorado’s offense overnight. For a unit that was averaging a meager 16 goals per game heading into Week 6, Finer and Min-Fink took over the heavy lifting, combining for 1,361 yards and 12 scores to power the team to a season-high 24 goals. However, that offensive explosion came against Oregon, who surrendered 34 goals to Salt Lake the next day.
That 34-goal performance was a franchise record for the Shred, and it came with Chad Yorgason at his sharpest. Yorgason, who finished with three hucks on three attempts, leads Salt Lake in hucks with 12 on the season, and another big yardage day could be on the horizon. The Apex have allowed opponents to complete 77.78 percent of their deep shots, the second-worst mark in the league.
One Big Number:
73 - Colorado’s O-line converted 73 percent of their possessions, a massive leap forward for a unit that managed just a 40 percent conversion rate over the first five games of the season.
89 - In their first matchup against Colorado this season, Salt Lake connected on 89 percent of their huck attempts.
Austin Sol at San Diego Growlers
Friday, June 5 - 10:00 PM/ET - Watch link
While this matchup may lack the historical bitterness of the other rivalries on this list, there is plenty to look forward to in this exciting South Division battle.
In years past, the Sol’s impressive regular-season records have occasionally felt like a mirage, but the 2026 group has built a resume strong enough to prove they are legitimate Championship Weekend contenders. They aren’t just winning; they are asserting themselves against playoff-level competition, coming off a dominant five-goal victory over Seattle last week and earning a statement win over Atlanta in Week 1.
What makes Austin dangerous right now is their ever-expanding depth. While the return of Evan Swiatek and the resurgent play of Kyle Henke sparked the team’s early-season success, the supporting cast has taken them to another level. Recently, players like Mark Henke and Duncan Fitzgerald have elevated their game.
Fitzgerald, in particular, is coming off of his best game all year. He went off against Seattle last week, racking up nearly 700 total yards and turning in a flawless 42-of-42 passing performance, highlighted by a season-high three huck completions.
Austin’s ascending O-line poses a massive threat to a San Diego defense that has hit a rough patch over its last three outings. During their two losses to Oakland, the Growlers surrendered 24 goals per game, and they even allowed the bottom-dwelling Vegas Bighorns to score a season-high 17. Defensive playmaking in particular has also been an issue, as San Diego is tied with Vegas for the third-fewest blocks per game in the league at 6.8 blocks per game.
Could home-field advantage turn things around for San Diego? The Growlers played their best games of the season at Mission Bay High School, pushing Carolina to the brink in a two-goal loss before upsetting the Hustle in their next game. In those two home appearances, San Diego recorded their highest completion percentages and lowest turnover rates of the year.
One Big Number:
8 - Austin Sol is one of only two teams, joining Atlanta, with eight players who have each thrown for at least 1,400 yards this season.
10 - The Growlers have averaged just 10 turnovers per game at home this season, compared to 22 on the road.
Indianapolis AlleyCats at Minnesota Wind Chill | Game of the Week
Saturday, June 6 - 7:00 PM/ET - Watch link
The Indianapolis AlleyCats turned heads in last week's "Friday Night Frisbee" showcase, cementing themselves as a team on the rise with plenty left to prove. Regardless of how they fare against their longtime rival and the Central Division titans, the Minnesota Wind Chill, I’m curious to see if this revitalized AlleyCats team can continue their upward trajectory as they look to climb the ranks in the crowded divisional playoff race.
In their pivotal win over the Union last week, the AlleyCats found their catalyst at just the right moment, and his name is Elliot Hawkins. One of the projected breakout stars of 2026, Hawkins wasted no time living up to the billing. He carved up the Union with 15 assists, deploying every throw in his arsenal en route to one of the most impressive individual performances the league has seen in recent memory.
Hawkins is without question the main player to watch, but did suffer a minor injury late in the Union game, so his health is worth monitoring. However, he is expected to be a full go on Saturday and that is massive news for the ‘Cats, as his ability to throw deep will be vital to the offense's success.
After the massive turnaround we saw last week, my big question going into this game: Will Indy Head Coach Nathan Bussberg stick with Hawkins as the unquestioned QB1 and continue leaning heavily on Jake Felton as a primary receiving option, or will he look to adjust his offensive approach to confuse Minnesota's D-line? With key AlleyCats receiver Will Wettengel expected to miss ths game, the expectation is that Felton slots as the WR1 for Indy.
The AlleyCats will be facing a completely different look on the defensive side, a Wind Chill team that generates far more double teams, applies heavier pressure on the mark, and thrives on anticipating predictable throws to manufacture blocks.
The Wind Chill defense hasn’t been as explosive recently, averaging just 7.33 blocks per game in three road games compared to 16 in their home opener. Returning to Sea Foam Stadium, where a record crowd of 2,122 fueled that opening game defensive surge, could be exactly what Minnesota needs.
Expect the blocks to come against an aggressive AlleyCats offense that fires nearly 16 hucks per game. To shut them down, watch for top deep-defender Justin Burnett, alongside Paul Krenik and Noah Coolman, to anchor Minnesota’s huck defense.
One Big Number:
8 - Hawkins completed eight hucks, the most by any player in one game this year. He was nearly flawless on his deep shots, going eight-of-nine to post a staggering 88.89 percent huck completion rate.
41.86 - The Wind Chill feature the league's best huck defense, limiting opponents to a 41.86 percent completion rate this season.
