Carsonville, MI – The Detroit Mechanix braved a late-season dusting of snow for their third "Team Building Weekend" (TBW) of the pre-season, returning to Camp Ozanam in Carsonville, Michigan, from March 21st to 23rd. Following two productive weekends focused on team unity and offensive development, this trip to the "thumb" of Michigan saw the defense rise to the challenge.
Friday night's arrival at Camp Ozanam was made even more welcoming by the aroma of Swedish Meatballs with pasta, expertly prepared by the team's culinary maestro, Chef Clint. This set a positive and comfortable tone for the weekend, a familiar and appreciated touch for the traveling team.
Even though a dusting of snow blanketed Carsonville overnight, the Mechanix remained undeterred. Saturday began with an early morning wake-up call for a team workout as the team must prepare for a physically and mentally tough season. This was followed by another delicious and energizing breakfast courtesy of Chef Clint, fueling the players for a demanding day on the field.
The morning practice session immediately threw the team into the fire with a full UFA scrimmage. This weekend's focus was evident as the defense, having observed and learned from the offensive progress made during the previous TBW, stepped up their intensity and organization. The scrimmage provided a crucial proving ground for defensive strategies and individual matchups, allowing the team to develop a more balanced and formidable overall game.
After a quick and satisfying lunch, once again prepared by Chef Clint, the Mechanix returned to the field to continue their training.
That evening, following another team dinner, the Mechanix ventured out to Port Sanilac, mirroring their previous trip, to unwind and connect at the Blue Water Sports Bar & Grill. This provided another valuable opportunity for players to socialize and further strengthen their off-field bonds, as well as engage in some friendly competition with the local patrons over a few games of pool.
Sunday morning saw the team up bright and early once again for another pre-practice workout. This early exertion was specifically designed to prepare the players for the rigors of multiple double-header weekends that await them in the upcoming UFA season, emphasizing the importance of endurance and recovery. As with the previous mornings, Chef Clint provided a nourishing meal to cap off the workout.
As the Detroit Mechanix concluded their third TBW and departed Carsonville, the overarching feeling was one of continued growth and cohesion. The defense's strong showing against a developing offense highlighted the team's well-rounded progress. With each passing weekend, the Mechanix are not only refining their on-field skills but also forging deeper connections off the field, building a strong foundation for a successful season ahead.
