Players are listed alphabetically.
Jesse Cohen, San Diego Growlers
After contributing mainly as an effective D-liner through his first three games of the season, Jesse Cohen shifted onto the O-line for the Growlers’ challenging Week 5 road trip. To put it succinctly, he excelled. Cohen was directly involved in nine scores on Friday night during the team’s double overtime victory over Carolina, with six goals, three assists, and four additional hockey assists. One day later, he once again played mistake-free frisbee, tallying four more assists and finishing second on the team in total yards. Overall, Cohen totaled six goals, seven assists, nearly 800 total yards, and zero throwaways for the Growlers in their impressive 1-1 weekend.
Sam Jonas, New York Empire
Antoine Davis also registered three blocks—including the huge game-sealing D at the buzzer—but 24-year-old Sam Jonas made the biggest play of the night, denying Philly’s deep shot with the score even at 16-all and less than 90 seconds remaining. The Empire were precariously close to falling to 2-4 on the season, but Jonas’ transformative play—also his third block of the game—led to New York’s go-ahead score with just 46 seconds left. Throughout the season, Jonas has been one of the Empire’s most consistent and productive defenders. To that point, through five weeks, he’s currently tied for the league lead with 10 blocks.
Adam Miller, Atlanta Hustle
If Adam Miller wasn’t somewhat overshadowed by several other MVP candidates on Atlanta’s O-line, perhaps he’d already be looked at as the frontrunner. After a career game on Saturday against San Diego, he certainly has to be at least mentioned in the conversation. Miller finished the night 49-for-49 with eight assists, one goal, and 402 total yards. Over the course of the season so far, he’s got 31 scores—fifth most in the league. His nine completed hucks also rank seventh best across the Association. Overall, he’s been a huge part of the Hustle’s 6-0 start, and he’ll try to keep it rolling this coming weekend as Atlanta travels to Minnesota and Chicago for two massive interdivisional matchups.
Matt Miller, San Diego Growlers
The handling Millers had quite the back-and-forth duel on Saturday night in Atlanta. Add in Matt Miller’s huge throwing performance on Friday at Carolina and the 2nd-year Growler absolutely earned his place on the Week 6 Honor Roll too. Across San Diego’s two games against a pair of pretty feisty defenses, Miller tossed 111 completions, throwing for 1,055 yards, with eight assists and six goals. Responsible for taking many difficult shots, he did endure five throwaways, but also completed five hucks and totaled eight more hockey assists. Overall, Miller currently leads the entire league in hockey assists, total yards and throwing yards.
James Pollard, Minnesota Wind Chill
Representing the Wind Chill D-line that registered 18 breaks in 25 chances, James Pollard joins this week’s scintillating seven after leading Minnesota in blocks, plus/minus, and points played in their 31-14 dismantling of Pittsburgh on Saturday night. His impact was felt immediately, as he launched the game’s opening pull and produced the first block, paving the way for the Wind Chill to start the game on a 7-1 run. He finished the night with three blocks, two assists, and one goal, while completing all nine of his passes and launching 17 pulls during his 24 points played.
Adam Rees, Oakland Spiders (Pictured)
It’s finally Adam Rees’ turn to make the Honor Roll, as the Spiders rookie finished two measly throwing yards shy of his first career 300/300 game in Oakland’s 21-16 Saturday victory over Seattle. Rees went 29-for-30 with four assists, three goals, one block, 298 throwing yards, and 351 receiving yards, as the Spiders offense continued to confound the Cascades. Oakland now sits at 3-0 against Seattle and 5-0 overall, with Rees ranking third in the league in goals scored and ninth in receiving yards through five weeks. Anyone else excited to watch Rees and the Spiders put their perfect record on the line at Colorado this Friday night?
McKay Yorgason, Salt Lake Shred
The youngest of the Shred’s three Yorgason brothers, McKay was absolutely incredible during Salt Lake’s Friday night comeback against Seattle. He carried such a burden for the O-line, which had to be nearly perfect in the second half. And when he crossed over to D, he was a pivotal presence in helping the Shred punch in all the necessary breaks to earn the dramatic victory. He finished with 60 completions and just one throwaway, with three assists, seven hockey assists, and 429 throwing yards in 28 points played. Honorable mention goes to McKay’s older brother, Chad, who played 29 points, totaled 637 total yards, and caught perhaps the biggest goal of the night when he skied for the ridiculous game-changing buzzer-beater right before the half.
