Mechanix Find Focus - TBW 2

Carsonville, MI – Following their initial team bonding in Watervliet, the Detroit Mechanix continued their pre-season preparations with their second "Team Building Weekend" (TBW) of the year, held at the secluded Camp Ozanam in Carsonville, Michigan, from March 7th to 9th. Nestled in the tranquil setting of Michigan's "thumb," this weekend focused intently on refining on-field chemistry and building momentum as the season rapidly approaches.

The choice of Camp Ozanam, far removed from the distractions of city life, was a deliberate strategic move by the Mechanix. This isolated location allows the team to eliminate outside noise and cultivate a deeper internal focus, concentrating solely on team development and strategic cohesion.

Saturday morning commenced with a team breakfast, expertly prepared by some of the Mechanix's collegiate contingent. Fueled and focused, the team then took to the field for their morning practice. This session marked significant progress in the team's offensive cohesion. The "fire teams," the smaller working units within the Mechanix's offensive system, began to demonstrate improved flow and a clearer understanding of each other's capabilities and tendencies.

Following a quick break for lunch and strategic discussion, the intensity escalated in the afternoon with a full Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) style scrimmage. This crucial session provided a valuable opportunity for the Mechanix to translate the strategies and burgeoning connections from the morning drills into game-like scenarios. Players competed fiercely, showcasing their athleticism and a growing tactical awareness across the field.

The evening provided another vital opportunity for team bonding back at camp. A hearty spaghetti dinner was shared, followed by several spirited and competitive games of Euchre, a beloved Mechanix tradition, punctuated by friendly banter and laughter that filled the post-dinner hours.

Later, the team ventured out to a local bar, not only for some friendly competition over the pool table but also to connect with the Carsonville community. "Hanging out off the field is just as important as what we do on it," Captain Terry Gaither stated. "It builds trust and makes us a tighter group. It is important to know the skills these guys have off the field too, it gives you a new perspective," added Marco Dewey.

Sunday followed the established routine with a team breakfast and workout, preparing the players for their final practice session on the field. This last session served as a crucial opportunity to solidify the gains made throughout the weekend and address any remaining areas needing refinement before the team heads into the next phase of their pre-season.

As the Detroit Mechanix departed Carsonville, a palpable sense of increasing optimism permeated the group. The tangible progress in building a cohesive offensive system, coupled with the continued strengthening of team bonds both on and off the field, strongly suggests a promising season on the horizon. This second TBW has demonstrably built upon the foundation established in Watervliet, leaving the Mechanix looking increasingly strong, united, and ready to face the challenges ahead.
