Power Rankings: Week 9

June 25, 2025
By Adam Ruffner

24. Vegas Bighorns (-1)
Record: 0-9
Last result: 32-10 (L) at Oakland
Next game: July 5 vs Salt Lake

Good news: Rookie Porter Stobbe has four straight starts with two or more assists, and his ability to cash in on one to two explosive plays per game has given the Bighorns attack some much needed pop; Vegas’s travel squad of fans in Colorado was a continual highlight from the sidelines.

Bad news: Vegas scored exactly zero breaks over their two losses in Week 9; the Bighorns rank last in offensive success rate (41 percent) and defensive break rate (15 percent).

23. Indianapolis AlleyCats (-1)
Record: 2-4
Last result: 31-14 (L) at Minnesota
Next game: June 27 at Chicago

Good news: Seth Gudeman is one of just 30 players so far this season to accumulate at least 35 scores and 3000 total yards; he’s the only player amongst that cohort with double digit blocks; when the AlleyCats defense does get a break opportunity, they’re top 10 in efficiency in cashing them in.

Bad news: Indy has committed 60 turnovers and given up 57 goals over their last two outings; opposing defenses are scoring breaks on 43 percent of their total points played against the AlleyCats, the second highest rate in the UFA this season behind the Bighorns.

22. Pittsburgh Thunderbirds (-1)
Record: 2-7
Last result: 21-20 (L) vs Detroit
Next game: June 28 at Toronto

Good news: The Thunderbirds snapped a six-game streak of poor offensive performances by scoring on over 60 percent of their drives against the Mechanix last Sunday; third-year Penn State product Alex Mullen has 11 goals in five starts since being activated on the roster at the beginning of June, and finished with career highs in goals (4) and receiving yards (296) against Detroit.

Bad news: Pittsburgh has lost seven straight, and allowed Detroit their first road win since 2016; the Thunderbirds are one of just five teams this season to surrender 10 or more breaks per game.

21. Detroit Mechanix (+3)
Record: 1-5
Last result: 21-20 (W) at Pittsburgh
Next game: June 27 at Detroit

Good news: Joe Cubitt got his first win as a pro in Pittsburgh, and finished 55-of-56 on his throws; David Cox and Jake Felton give this Mechanix offense the most consistent playmaking in nearly a decade; Detroit committed six fewer turnovers last Sunday than their previous season low in 2025.

Bad news: Detroit is still searching for their first non-Pittsburgh win since 2017; nobody commits more huck turnovers per game than the Mechanix (8.5) in 2025.

20. Houston Havoc (-2)
Record: 1-8
Last result: 28-17 (L) at Atlanta
Next game: July 5 vs Austin

Good news: Jordan Salazar now leads the team in goals after his three-game tear, and his WR1 status has been cemented by his ability to win out in the air in virtually every one-on-one matchup; Jimmy Zuraw is four completions shy of becoming the first player in Havoc franchise history to 1000.

Bad news: The Havoc managed just three combined blocks over two games in Week 9, and now rank last in the league in takeaways per game (7.1); Houston has not scored more than 19 in a game during their current five-game losing streak.

19. Oregon Steel (-)
Record: 3-7
Last result: 20-19 (L) vs Los Angeles
Next game: June 28 vs Colorado

Good news: The Steel tied a franchise high with eight break scores last Friday against the Aviators as Ben Thoennes and rookie Beckett Sessums ignited the counterattack; David Barram has three starts this season with at least four assists, 400 passing yards, and three huck completions; Oregon is quietly holding opponents to the ninth lowest offensive success rate this season.

Bad news: The Steel’s seventh loss virtually seals them out of the playoff race in the West Division; Oregon is just 20-of-67 (29 percent) on offensive possessions over their last two games.

18. Los Angeles Aviators (-1)
Record: 2-6
Last result: 20-15 (L) at Seattle
Next game: July 5 vs San Diego

Good news: The Aviators finished their Week 9 road trip with just 32 total turnovers while going 22-of-26 (84 percent) on red zone chances; after racking up 13 scores last weekend, Jonathan Lyle is now second among rookies in scores (44) and third in total yards (3632) while completing nearly 70 percent of his deep attempts this year.

Bad news: LA’s offense hasn’t hit a 50 percent conversion rate in each of their last three games, and they’re bottom six for the season in O-line success rate; opponents are average nearly 12 blocks per game against the Aviators, the sixth most in 2025.

17. Seattle Cascades (+3)
Record: 3-6
Last result: 20-15 (W) vs Los Angeles
Next game: June 27 vs Colorado

Good news: The Cascades are clinging to the last rung of their playoff chances with back-to-back home wins, and an offense that is creeping back towards the league’s top 10; rookie Conor Belfield not only leads the team in receiving yards, his 330 per game average ranks fourth overall in the UFA; Seattle sits second in team huck completion percentage (75 percent), and committed a season-low 11 turnovers against the Aviators in Week 9.

Bad news: Seattle has feasted on the cellar dwellers in the West for their three wins, but are 0-5 with a 3.4 average margin of defeat against other divisional opponents this season; the Cascades had six turnovers inside the red zone against LA.

16. Madison Radicals (-)
Record: 4-3
Last Result: 31-20 (W) at Detroit
Next game: June 27 vs Detroit

Good news: With Indy and Pittsburgh already both at five or more losses on the season, the Radicals would have to do something drastically tragic to lose their grip on the third and final playoff spot in the Central Division; journeyman thrower Eric Sjostrom had four assists and 26 completions for 407 throwing yards without a turnover in his Radicals debut back on June 14.

Bad news: In their four games against Minnesota, Chicago, Austin, and Houston, the Radicals are averaging just four breaks per game, which would rank them 21st for the season; Madison is the only team in the league at this point in the season without a passer reaching 1500 throwing yards.

15. Toronto Rush (-1)
Record: 2-7
Last result: 23-13 (L) at Boston
Next game: June 28 vs Pittsburgh

Good news: Rookie Tom Blasman is one of just five players to register at least 30 assists and 20 hucks so far this season, and he’s fourth overall in passing yards; Arvids Karklins is one of just three players* averaging five scores and over 500 yards of offense per game.

Bad news: After two losses by a combined 14 goals in Week 9, the rebooted Rush certainly look revitalized, but they still only have three total wins since the start of the 2024 season; the three teams that have softer defenses than Toronto have just two wins combined (Houston, Detroit, and Vegas).

*Minimum two starts in 2025

14. Montreal Royal (+1)
Record: 3-5
Last result: 16-15 (L, 2OT) vs Boston
Next game: June 27 at DC

Good news: Even with back-to-back losses, the Royal are still just 1.5 games back of second place in the East Division; over their last five outings, Montreal’s defense has converted on 65 percent (36 of 55) of their break chances, a rate that would put them first in the league by a whopping five-percent margin for the whole season.

Bad news: The Royal are 0-5 when they have 10 or fewer red zone attempts; despite their run over the last month of the schedule, Montreal’s defense still ranks in the bottom half of the league in break rate.

13. San Diego Growlers (-)
Record: 6-3
Last result: 23-16 (W) at Vegas
Next game: June 28 vs Oakland

Good news: The Growlers are 32-of-39 (82 percent) from deep over their last three games, with Matt Miller connecting on seven hucks by himself; defensive veteran Maxwell Hume—who has started in eight of the team’s nine games this season—is just four games shy of 100 for his Growlers career; one more San Diego win and a Flyers loss would effectively clinch the Growlers a playoff spot.

Bad news: San Diego is 0-3 against teams with winning records this season; the Growlers are averaging just over four breaks per game in those losses.

12. Philadelphia Phoenix (-)
Record: 4-4
Last result: 25-16 (W) at Pittsburgh
Next game: June 28 vs Montreal

Good news: The Phoenix had more breaks against the Thunderbirds (12) than in their four prior games combined (10); Philly’s 10 turnovers tied for the second lowest total in franchise history for a single game, and the Phoenix rank eighth in the UFA in fewest turns per game this season; Nate Little is putting together an All Defense like season, and is tied for sixth in the league in blocks.

Bad news: Even with their defensive blitzkrieg in the Commonwealth Cup, the Phoenix rank just 16th in break scores per game; Philly faces Boston, New York, and DC in three of their final four games, and a Montreal team that beat them by nine less than three weeks ago.

11. DC Breeze (-)
Record: 4-4
Last result: 19-18 (L, 2OT) at New York
Next game: June 27 vs Montreal

Good news: 24-year-old and team captain Jacques Nissen has career highs in virtually every passing category but assists with four games to play; even with injuries and a rotating lineup, the Breeze offense is playing its best disc of the season; Tyler Monroe has four or more scores in three straight starts, and he’s completing a career-best 97 percent of his throws; Monroe and Nissen are jockeying back-and-forth for third all-time in Breeze team history in completions.

Bad news: DC is one of just eight teams averaging fewer than five breaks per game, and easily the only team among that group not multiple games below .500; the Breeze are averaging the fifth fewest takeaways per game in 2025.

10. New York Empire (-)
Record: 5-5
Last result: 23-19 (W) vs Toronto
Next game: July 13 vs Philadelphia

Good news: John Randolph is reaching his full offensive potential in his fourth year with the Empire, and he has five straight starts with at least four assists and 34 completions, but the real development has been his addition of the longball to his throwing repertoire; Matt LaBar has emerged as the secret sauce fueling the Empire attack as they’ve gone unbroken in the second halves of each of their past two games; Jack Williams looks near full health after being plagued by a bad hamstring throughout the first half of the season.

Bad news: The Empire allowed Toronto 20 possessions inside the red zone last Friday, and the Rush converted on 18; New York is in the bottom half of the league in break rate for the first time in franchise history.

9. Colorado Summit (-)
Record: 4-2
Last result: 26-10 (W) vs Vegas
Next game: June 27 at Seattle

Good news: Colorado has scored 24 or more goals in all four of their home games this season (4-0 record); the Summit are third this season in break rate after finishing outside the top 10 in 2024; Noah Coolman is on pace for the first 20-assist, 20-goal, 20-block season since 2021 MVP Ben Jagt; Colorado completed a whopping 50 hucks over their three-game homestand.

Bad news: Since the beginning of 2024, the Summit are just 2-6 in road games; Colorado hasn’t ranked in the league’s top 10 in red zone efficiency since 2023.

8. Carolina Flyers (-)
Record: 4-4
Last result: 28-14 (W) vs Houston
Next game: June 28 vs Austin (Game Of The Week)

Good news: Winners of four in a row, the Flyers are averaging under 12 turnovers per game during the rally towards the playoffs, and their nine turns in Week 9 tied a three-year low; rookie John McDonnell leads the league in completions and hockey assists, and he’s the only player* in the league averaging over 60 completions per game; Jacob Fairfax now has eight straight regular seasons with at least 24 goals.

Bad news: Even with all of their impressive stats during their rejuvenated run, one more loss might be all it takes for Carolina to miss the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

*Minimum two starts

7. Oakland Spiders (-)
Record: 6-2
Last result: 32-10 (W) vs Vegas
Next game: June 27 at Salt Lake

Good news: The Spiders outscored Oregon and Vegas 57-19 in their last two games at home; Walker Frankenberg and Leo Gordon average more scores (13) than any set of teammates* this season; Oakland is one of just three teams allowing fewer than three breaks per game to opponents.

Bad news: Oakland finished their three-game homestand just 10-of-25 (40 percent) on throws of 40 or more yards; the Spiders are 0-2 against teams with winning records.

*Minimum two games played

6. Salt Lake Shred (-)
Record: 6-1
Last result: 21-19 vs Oregon
Next game: June 27 vs Oakland

Good news: The Shred have almost as many huck completions (23) as turnovers (30) in their last two games; despite an ever-so slight dip in his production over the past year, Jordan Kerr is still averaging 6.5 scores per game in 48 career starts with the Shred, and has two or more assists in all seven games this season playing at full health; Kerr is already 24th all-time in assists with 237; opponents are averaging the fewest takeaways per game (6.1) against the Shred.

Bad news: The Shred still have Oakland (once), Colorado (twice), and Minnesota left on their schedule; Salt Lake is 2-3 in their last five games against teams with winning records dating back to last season.

5. Atlanta Hustle (-)
Record: 7-3
Last result: 28-17 (W) vs Houston
Next game: June 27 vs Austin (Friday Night Frisbee)

Good news: The Hustle have hit their season low mark for turnovers (8) three different times in 2025; even for a franchise that loves the longball, Atlanta’s 14-of-16 night against the Havoc last Saturday ranks among the three best huck performances for the Hustle; Austin Taylor became the second player in UFA history to pass for 20,000 yards, and he’s just 26 air yards shy of 4000 for the regular season.

Bad news: The Hustle have the lowest break rate of any team with a winning record this season; Atlanta is averaging over a break per game less this season compared to 2024.

4. Minnesota Wind Chill (-)
Record: 6-1
Last result: 31-14 (W) vs Indianapolis
Next game: July 4 at Chicago

Good news: Minnesota has won five in a row by an average margin of nearly 9.4 goals per game; Josh Klane is having his most efficient throwing season since his All-UFA campaign in 2018, and has just one multi-throwaway game in seven starts; Klane and 35-year-old vet playmaker Bryan Vohnoutka are both closing in on top 20 all-time in UFA history in scores.

Bad news: If the Wind Chill can’t win their Independence Day showdown with the Union by at least six goals, the reigning champs are facing a likely Central Division title game in Chicago; Minnesota ranks outside the top 10 in turnovers per game.

3. Austin Sol (-)
Record: 7-0
Last Result: 20-18 (W) vs Houston
Next game: June 27 at Atlanta (Friday Night Frisbee)

Good news: The Sol have double digit blocks in five of their seven games; Austin is averaging nearly 16 scores inside the red zone per game in 2025, meaning they can manufacture a lot of short range scoring opportunities; eight-year Sol vet Elliott Moore is on pace for career bests in most offensive categories; a win against Atlanta would almost assure Austin the one seed in the South Division.

Bad news: Since opening the season 13-of-16 (81 percent) from deep, the Sol are just 37-of-75 (49 percent) on hucks over their last six games; Austin has 20 or more turnovers in two of their last four games.

2. Chicago Union (-)
Record: 6-0
Last Result: 28-10 (W) at Detroit
Next game: June 27 vs Indianapolis

Good news: Daan De Marrée isn’t just in ROTY talks, but should start getting some MVP buzz for his all-around performances; Benjamin Preiss has two or more goals in all six starts this season, and currently leads the team in goals (20); the Union are allowing the fewest breaks per game to opposing defenses.

Bad news: Chicago turned the disc over 60 times combined in their two games in Week 9; the Union are second to last in the league in hucks per game (5.7).

1. Boston Glory (-)
Record: 8-0
Last Result: 23-13 (W) vs Toronto
Next game: July 6 vs DC

Good news: Even down their two best players in Jeff Babbitt and Tobe Decraene, Boston absolutely blasted Toronto at home and scored a season-high 12 breaks against the Rush; Tannor Johnson-Go has at least two assists and a block in all six of his appearances in 2025; third-year standout Simon Carapella has been a perfect utility piece in the Glory offense, and his acceleration and precision in tight spaces has made him indispensable near the goal line.

Bad news: With three of their final four games on the road, can the rest of the East bring Boston back to the pack?
