AUDL Announces Delay in Commencement of 2020 Season

March 12, 2020

Following a call with the 22 AUDL teams and a dialogue with players and officials, the American Ultimate Disc League today announced that it will delay the start of the 2020 season. The 139 game season was scheduled to begin on April 4th.

“Our top priority will always be the health and well-being of our fans, players, officials and the communities we call home.” said Steve Hall, AUDL Commissioner and CEO. “Our Executive Council and team owners are united in their support of this decision which we  feel is consistent with the best practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and local health authorities to prevent community spread of COVID-19.”

With the full support of our partner, Events DC, the AUDL will be cancelling the annual All-Star Game and related events which were scheduled to be played in Washington, DC on June 13th - 14th.  We look forward to returning to DC in 2021 when this event is rescheduled with a new date.

“We will continue to monitor all the appropriate medical advice and encourage our players and other members of the AUDL community to take all reasonable precautions — including CDC best practices and self-quarantine, when applicable. Our goal is to resume play as soon as it is appropriate and prudent,” continued Hall.

The AUDL and its teams will be evaluating a number of options regarding the resumption of the regular season schedule. Our goal will be to complete a full 12 game season with divisional playoffs and the Championship Weekend to crown our 2020 champions. The AUDL will announce its revised schedule at an appropriate time and will remain flexible as we continue to monitor the situation.

We would like to thank our players, officials and fans for their understanding and support during this challenging time and send our best wishes to all families and communities who have been impacted by coronavirus.
