The Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) is proud to announce Julie Gordon as the new Head of Officials & Recruitment for the league for the 2024 season. With 15 years of experience officiating ultimate frisbee, Julie joined the league as an observer in 2009 and became a referee in 2016.
"I've been involved most of my life with this sport as a player and an official, and I am honored to accept this new role with the UFA,” said Julie. “The integrity and spirit of our game is paramount, and I look forward to upholding these values each and every game and encouraging all our officials to do the same."
Julie, based in Dallas, Texas, will be responsible for managing and implementing the official rules of the UFA, as well as recruiting and coordinating all referees used during the regular season and playoffs. As a player, she played competitive club ultimate frisbee for ten seasons, earning five trips to USA Ultimate Nationals and Masters Nationals.
In addition, Blake Grundy (Dallas) and Hank Cary (Denver, Colo.) will be Assistant Directors of Officials, working under Julie. Blake has been officiating ultimate frisbee since 2017 and basketball since 2013, including various levels of college basketball for the past six years. Hank has been a referee in ultimate frisbee for 15 years and football for 11 years, including the past three seasons in Division II college football.
In 2020, the UFA centralized recruitment, training and compensation of all officials through the league office. Opportunities to officiate games in the UFA are still available for the 2024 season, beginning in April. For more information and to apply, visit https://watchufa.com/league/officiating.
