The American Ultimate Disc League is proud to welcome its newest team the Houston Havoc for the 2023 season. The Havoc will play in the South Division, and will host their home games at AVEVA Stadium, sharing the state-of-the-art venue with the Houston SaberCats of Major League Rugby (MLR).
The team’s new name represents the chaotic, yet strategic movement of ultimate disc, and the disruptive energy the organization plans to bring to the pro sports scene in Houston. The region’s symbolic strength in energy innovation, space exploration, and advanced architecture also mirror the beauty and power of ultimate.
“The AUDL is honored to bring professional ultimate disc to Houston,” said CEO and Commissioner Steve Hall. “The rich history of professional sports in this city combined with the opportunity to practice and play at a renowned facility give the Houston Havoc a bright future in our league.”
The Havoc’s home in AVEVA Stadium will immediately become one of the most innovative and fan-friendly venues in the AUDL. Representing only one of two rugby-specific stadiums in the United States, the complex opened in 2019 and boasts an overall capacity of 4,000, VIP seating, a 20’ x 50’ video board and world-class fan and player facilities.
The team also joins an expansive ultimate disc community in Houston, featuring numerous special events and tournaments, amateur training and leagues, and a commitment to celebrating diversity throughout the sport. The AUDL is working closely with the Houston Ultimate Community (HUC) to establish the foundation for the Havoc. Led by President and Board Member Chris Dawkins, the HUC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to growing ultimate, encouraging healthy lifestyles and eliminating barriers for players of all backgrounds in the Houston area.
“Houston is becoming a global destination for ultimate disc,” said Dawkins. “And now with the AUDL’s commitment to success and growth through the Havoc, we are thrilled to showcase our diverse ultimate community where all people–regardless of gender, age, race or ethnicity–can enrich our game for years to come.”
