AUDL Honor Roll: Week 1

April 8, 2019
By Evan Lepler

Throughout the 2019 season, the AUDL’s weekly honor roll will be revealed each Monday, honoring seven players whose individual exploits merit recognition. The players are listed alphabetically by last name.

  1. Travis Dunn, San Diego Growlers - A First Team All-AUDL performer in 2018, Travis Dunn led the San Diego Growlers team in both assists (4) and blocks (3) in San Diego’s 20-18 victory over Los Angeles, helping the team start the season 1-0 for the first time in the franchise’s five-year history.
  2. Henry Fisher, Raleigh Flyers - Despite Friday night’s loss in Dallas, several members of the Roughnecks said postgame that Henry Fisher’s scintillating seven-goal, three-assist professional debut made him the de facto player of the game. A day later against Austin, the speedy 6’6” cutter out of Carleton College contributed four more goals in Raleigh Flyers' four-goal win, giving Fisher 11 goals on the weekend and the Flyers a split on their two-game Texas trip.
  3. Jay Froude, Dallas Roughnecks - If not for Jay Froude’s huge plays early in the game—including a remarkable skying score against Raleigh’s 6’7” tower Mischa Freystaetter—the Roughnecks may have lost contact with the Flyers at some point in the first half. Instead, the Dallas Roughnecks never trailed by more than four, a deficit they would eventually overcome in a dramatic 19-17 victory, aided greatly by Froude’s five goals and three assists.
  4. Lior Givol, San Jose Spiders - Racking up five goals and six assists, Lior Givol’s production was critical as the San Jose Spiders roared back from a seven-goal deficit early in the second half to beat Seattle in overtime, 28-27. Adding a pair of hockey assists to his stat line, Givol was involved in his team’s scores in more than half the points he played in the thrilling road win.
  5. Sean Ham, San Diego Growlers - Sean Ham made one clutch grab after another for the Growlers, scoring six of his game-high seven goals in the second half of San Diego’s narrow win over rival Los Angeles. It was the sixth time in his AUDL career that Ham caught at least seven scores in a single game, but just the first time since the 2016 season.
  6. Andrew Roney, Tampa Bay Cannons - With 64 completions, eight assists, and four blocks, Andrew Roney set the single-game standards for each of those statistical categories league-wide in the opening weekend. Incredibly, no one else on his team tallied more than two assists or one block, but Roney’s Tampa Bay Cannons still mustered a narrow 18-17 victory over the visiting Hustle, a huge early-season confidence builder for the young Tampa team.
  7. Carson Wilder, Dallas Roughnecks - Several Roughnecks made clutch plays to hold off the feisty Flyers on Friday night, but Carson Wilder’s continuing emergence as a budding superstar stood out amongst the rest. He finished with three assists, two goals, one block, and no turnovers as the Roughnecks improved to 39-4 all-time in AUDL regular season action.
