The Dallas Roughnecks are advancing to their third title game in four years with a convincing 23-18 win over the San Diego Growlers. The Roughnecks defense bottled up the league's best offense, generating 18 takeaways; Kai Marshall finished with a game-high five blocks on the night. Dallas will advance to face the New York Empire in tomorrow's championship game.
Dallas opened and closed the game on 4-1 runs, using their team speed and tenacious coverage to force San Diego onto their heels. Five different Growlers throwers committed multiple throwaways, a testament to the Roughnecks pressure in the San Diego handler rotations.
The Roughnecks offense had their highest scoring total in their last five outings, largely thanks to the efficiency of their throwers. Henry Furuta tossed a game-high 380 yards on 54-of-55 throws, dishing two assista and adding three goals. Dalton Smith, Abe Coffin, and Connor Olson combined for over 600 yard throwing and nine assists on 130-of-133 throws (97.74 percent), and helped keep Dallas' rhythm uptempo all game long.
The 2019 AUDL Championship Game will take place Sunday, August 11 at 3:00 PM/ET on Stadium.
