PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (April 30, 2024) - The Philadelphia Phoenix of the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) have partnered with the American Beach Ultimate Association (ABUA) to sponsor the 2024 Wildwood Beach Ultimate Tournament. Held every July in New Jersey since 1992, the world’s largest beach ultimate event draws several hundred teams from around the world. The Phoenix will host a free Phoenix Ultimate Academy (PUA) youth clinic at the tournament and celebrate the participants with activities, giveaways and more.
“Connecting our event with the Phoenix is a tremendous opportunity for ultimate in our area,” said tournament director Len Dagit. “Our participants will support the team as they compete for the UFA championship, and the summer will culminate with the greatest beach ultimate competition on the Jersey Shore.”
The 32nd Wildwood Beach Ultimate Tournament will be held on July 27 and 28, featuring co-ed 4-on-4 teams for players of all levels, ages 16 and over. ABUA is dedicated to the continued growth of the sport of beach ultimate by strengthening competition in the local, national and global community, while striving to produce the best tournament experiences for all participants. All registered players will receive exclusive offers and updates from the Phoenix throughout the 2024 season. For details and event registration, visit wwbeachultimate.com.
“The Wildwood tournament is an institution in the northeast, and I am thrilled to work together,” said Phoenix majority owner Dr. Christina Lee Chung. “We have an opportunity to showcase ultimate frisbee on multiple levels– from recreational to professional, from sand to turf, – and introduce new players, especially youth, to our wonderful sport and community.”
The PUA aims to increase opportunities for Philadelphia area youth of all backgrounds, ages and skill levels to learn the sport of ultimate frisbee from professional caliber players and coaches. In addition to teaching the rules and disc skills, the PUA focuses on communication, sportsmanship, body awareness, self-advocacy, and conflict resolution, all of which are core values in the sport of ultimate frisbee and integral to healthy youth development.
The Phoenix open the regular season with Cinco de Mayo fiesta at home against the D.C. Breeze on Sunday, May 5, at 5:00 p.m. ET. Find more information and purchase game tickets at watchufa.com/phoenix.
