Phoenix Phorecast, Week 8

This week the Phoenix Phorecast is mostly sunny with a chance at playoffs following last Sunday’s milestone win over defending East Division Champions, Toronto Rush — Philadelphia’s first over Toronto in 13 tries.

Philadelphia now sits in a virtual tie for the third, and is within reach of a playoff spot in the East. The DC Breeze dropped another brutal, hard-fought double-overtime contest in Ottawa last weekend which, combined with the Phoenix win over Toronto, temporarily pushed DC under .500 and simultaneously vaulted Philadelphia up the standings. However, the Breeze rallied for a one-point win over the Royal in Montreal the next day, keeping pace with the Phoenix.

Next, winless Montreal Royal travel to A.A. Garthwaite Stadium this Saturday night, for the first leg of a road trip south that had spelled doom for both Toronto and Ottawa in previous trips of the same ilk. Earlier this season, Ottawa made a trip south to DC before heading back north to Philadelphia, both games ending in Outlaw losses. Just last week Toronto left the friendly confines of Canada undefeated at 3-0 to travel south to New York and Philadelphia, also resulting in limping home with two losses. At 0-3, the Royal, who will also travel to DC for a Sunday contest before embarking on an almost 12-hour ride home, can ill afford a similar fate.

For the Phoenix, though, a first-ever Canadian sweep at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium Saturday night would further cement their playoff aspirations. Following last week’s landmark win over Toronto, will the Phoenix suffer a letdown against Montreal? Or will they continue to rise?

The Phoenix host the Montreal Royal on Saturday, May 25. Tickets and fan packs are available here.
