Head Coach Roger Chu Steps Down After Three Seasons with the Philadelphia Phoenix
Philadelphia, PA – December 11, 2024 – The Philadelphia Phoenix announced today that Head Coach Roger Chu is moving on from his position after three seasons at the helm of the Hotbirds. Chu's tenure has been defined by moving the club from being a basement dweller in the Ultimate Frisbee Association’s (UFA) East Division to a team that makes the ultimate giants nervous.
Under Chu’s leadership, the Phoenix made their first playoff appearance as a franchise in 2022 and transformed into a perennial playoff contender team. His professionalism, unwavering commitment to player development, and ability to cultivate a belief in winning have left an indelible mark on the franchise.
"Coach Chu's contributions to the Phoenix organization are immeasurable," said General Manager Matt Shade. "He has not only elevated the team to new heights but has also fostered a deep connection with the city of Philadelphia. Coach Chu expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Phoenix and reflected on his time with the organization:
