PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (February 5, 2023) - The Philadelphia Phoenix of the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) have released the team’s spring and summer 2024 youth program schedule. The Phoenix Ultimate Academy (PUA) will be offering more than 30 unique youth sessions across numerous sites in the Philadelphia region. Sponsored by Rothman Orthopedics and Schweiger Dermatology Group, the programs include week-long summer camps, partnership clinics with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, ultimate frisbee assemblies at local schools and day camps, and spring semester afterschool and school holiday sessions with townships throughout the Delaware Valley.
“Sharing our passion and teaching the game of ultimate frisbee is the foundation of what we do,”said team captain and Youth Director Brandon Pastor. “The number of kids and parents seeking opportunities to play and learn the game is higher than ever. We are so excited to be partnering with even more townships this spring and summer season. More camps in more locations means more diversity in the types of sports our area youth are exposed to and a broadening of the greater Philadelphia youth sports community.”
Children of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate and develop new skills, learn from the city’s professional ultimate frisbee athletes, and create new friendships in a safe, exciting and fun sports environment. This year, the PUA’s programs will expand to Upper Merion and Limerick with sessions also taking place in Swarthmore, Lower Merion, Tredyffrin, Center City, Phoenixville, and Radnor. Half- and full-day options are available for all summer camps and registration is $225 and $375, respectively, at most locations. In 2024, the PUA is offering an early bird special:the first 10 campers to register at each location receive one month free of watchUFA.tv, two tickets for any Phoenix game, and a special Hotbird sticker.
The UFA and Phoenix believe in the benefit of sport for healthy physical, social-emotional, and academic development in youth. The PUA aims to increase opportunities for Philadelphia area youth of all backgrounds, ages and skill levels to learn the exciting, non-contact sport of ultimate frisbee from professional caliber players and instructors. In addition to teaching the rules and techniques of the sport, the PUA also focuses on skills in communication, sportsmanship, body awareness, self-advocacy and conflict resolution, all of which are core values in the sport of ultimate frisbee and integral to healthy youth development.
Program attendance has increased more than 2,000% since its inception in 2020 and offerings include summer camp series, school PE assemblies, spring and summer afterschool programs, school vacation camps, weekend skills clinics, and advanced development programming.
