The Philadelphia Phoenix have released the team’s spring and summer 2023 youth program schedule. The Phoenix Ultimate Academy (PUA) will be offering more than 20 unique youth sessions—the most in team history—across numerous sites in the Philadelphia region. Programs include week-long summer camps, partnership clinics with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, and afterschool spring sessions with schools and townships.
“Growing the game of ultimate is the heart of the Phoenix,” said team captain and Youth Director Brandon Pastor. “The excitement and interest in our youth programs is higher than ever, and we are so excited to expand our reach in the Philadelphia community. More camps in more locations means more kids of all backgrounds learning the game and creating new connections in our community.”
Children of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate and develop new skills, learn from professional athletes, and create new friendships in an exciting and fun sports environment. This year, the PUA’s programs will expand to Phoenixville and Warminster, and double the number of summer camp weeks in Swarthmore and Lower Merion. Sessions will also take place in Tredyffrin, Center City and Radnor.
The AUDL and Phoenix believe in the benefit of sport for healthy physical, social-emotional, and academic development in youth. The PUA aims to increase opportunities for Philadelphia area youth of all backgrounds, ages and skill levels to learn the exciting, new, non-contact sport of ultimate from professional caliber players and instructors. In addition to teaching the rules and techniques of the sport, the PUA also focuses on skills in communication, sportsmanship, body awareness, self-advocacy and conflict resolution, all of which are core values in the sport of ultimate and integral to healthy youth development.
Program attendance has increased more than 1,500% since its inception in 2020 and offerings include summer camp series, spring and summer afterschool programs, school vacation camps, weekend skills clinics, and advanced development programming.
