AUDL'S PHILADELPHIA PHOENIX LAUNCH SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM IN CENTER CITY
The Philadelphia Phoenix of the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) are excited to announce their youth program, the Phoenix Ultimate Academy (PUA), will hold summer camps in Center City, Philadelphia, this August. The Phoenix are teaming up with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation to introduce ultimate disc to the Philly youth with two weeks of fun at Starr Garden Playground.
“Since PUA’s inception, we have been trying to expand our offerings beyond the western suburbs,” said Phoenix team captain and Youth Director Brandon Pastor. “So many of us live and work in Philadelphia so we are thrilled to finally find a home base here to offer ultimate disc instruction and the growing opportunities associated with it to children across the city. Getting more kids engaged and reaping the physical, academic and social-emotional benefits of sports participation is at the heart of what we are trying to accomplish through the Phoenix Ultimate Academy.”
Session one will be held August 14-18 and session two will follow immediately from August 21-24. Both sessions are open to children of all skill levels, ages 7-15, and parents can choose between full and half-day options. Full day registration is $375 and half day is $225 for each 1-week program. The Philadelphia-based summer camp weeks round out PUA’s regional programming which can also be found in Warminster, Phoenixville, Lower Merion, Swarthmore and Wayne.
“We are looking forward to hosting Phoenix Ultimate Academy for a wonderful new opportunity for the youth of Philadelphia. We encourage everyone to come on out!” said Chloe Harris, Director of Starr Garden Playground.
The AUDL and Phoenix strongly believe in the benefit of sport for healthy physical and emotional development in youth. The PUA aims to increase opportunities for Philadelphia area youth of all backgrounds, ages and skill levels to learn the exciting, new, non-contact sport of ultimate from professional caliber players and coaches. In addition to teaching the rules and techniques of the sport, the PUA also focuses on skills in communication, sportsmanship, body awareness, self-advocacy and conflict resolution, all of which are core values in the sport of ultimate and integral to healthy youth development.
Program attendance has increased more than 1,500% since its inception in 2020 and offerings include summer camp series, spring and summer afterschool programs, school vacation camps, weekend skills clinics, and advanced development programming.
