WASHINGTON, D.C. – The DC Breeze today announced that Lauren Boyle has been named head coach prior to the 2024 season. Boyle touts extensive experience playing and coaching ultimate frisbee, including serving as an assistant coach for the gold-medal winning USA U-24 Mixed National Team in 2018, 2019, and 2023, as head coach of Pittsburgh Temper 2021-2022, and most recently as an assistant coach of the 2023 Club National Champions Washington DC Truck Stop.

“It’s safe to say we got our number one,” General Manager Sean Banks said. “After our first conversation with Lauren, it was clear she’s a perfect fit to lead the team, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her on board.”

Boyle takes over at the helm of the Breeze, replacing longtime head coach Darryl Stanley. She becomes the first woman-matching head coach in team history, and in her first season coaching in the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA), she’ll be tasked with leading a DC Breeze squad that has aspirations of reaching its first-ever Championship Weekend in 2024. Breeze ownership believes she has what it takes to vault the club to new heights and finally bring a UFA championship to The District.

“I am excited to join the Breeze this season. There is so much greatness with this program from the athletes, organization, fans and overall DC community,” Boyle said. “My plan as head coach is to reinforce the good and keep building upon the numerous strengths to become a force of excellence.”

The 2024 preseason is fully underway and Boyle and her staff will be conducting open tryouts to make the 2024 roster next month. Tryouts will be held at The Fields at RFK on February 10-11 and February 17-18; registration is live now at watchufa.com/breeze/2024-tryouts.

The Breeze return to game action in late April 2024. The UFA regular season runs through the end of July with playoffs beginning immediately following the conclusion of the regular season, and Championship Weekend will once again take place in mid-to-late August. The full schedule will be released in February. Season tickets for the 2024 Breeze season are available at thedcbreeze.com/tickets.
