WASHINGTON, D.C. – The stage is set for a Round 2 showdown as the DC Breeze (3-1) and Carolina Flyers (3-2) gear up to face each other on Friday night in Washington, D.C. Their previous encounter in April saw the Breeze emerge victorious with a 21-16 win, handing the Flyers an opening-weekend loss. However, since then, Carolina has shown their resilience and is riding a three-game winning streak into this upcoming contest. The Flyers will be motivated to seek vengeance in this highly-anticipated matchup.
Meanwhile, the Breeze capitalized on a well-deserved week off after their impressive victory over the Toronto Rush. The momentum gained from bouncing back after an overtime loss to the New York Empire two weeks ago could prove crucial for DC. In recent weeks, the Breeze have been led by dominant performances from breakout player, Benjamin Oort. Oort has been a constant thorn in the side of opposing teams, wreaking havoc on both offense and defense. He contributed four goals in the overtime loss to the Empire and followed it up with four assists and two goals against the Rush, leading his team to victory.
While the Breeze offense has struggles at times, their defense has been making waves, relentlessly swarming their opponents and dominating the field with each passing week. Their ability to maintain a high break percentage (37.7%, 6th in AUDL) will be crucial in containing the Flyers' explosive offensive firepower. Carolina, aside from their loss to the Breeze in late April, has been averaging over 20 goals per game over the last four weeks.
The Breeze enter Friday night's clash with fresh legs after having a week off to regroup. The excitement is in the air as the first pull is scheduled for 7:00 PM EDT – fans should expect a thriller in this one!
