After more than 600 days without playing a game, the DC Breeze of the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) will return to the field this summer. The 2021 AUDL schedule has officially been announced; the Breeze will play a 12-game regular season from June to August, with the potential for playoff games in September. The Breeze home opener will be played Saturday, June 5 at 6:00 PM/CT at Catholic University’s Carlini Field against the Tampa Bay Cannons.
The Breeze enter the 2021 season playing in the new Atlantic Division, where they’ll match up with Atlanta, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, and Tampa Bay throughout the season. The eight-team super division is a result of the Canadian border closure, forcing former East Division teams New York and Boston to move down to the Atlantic Division for 2021. The division will yield four playoff spots and send two teams to Championship Weekend, the AUDL’s final four style event at the end of each season.
This year, DC will host their first Championship Weekend on September 10-11. The Breeze will be looking to make it to the final four for the first time in franchise history, with potential home field advantage providing extra motivation and anticipation for the season. Returning to the Breeze in 2021 is 2018 AUDL MVP Rowan McDonnell, primed to lead the team for his fifth straight season.
