The Chicago Union will play their second matchup of the season against the Madison Radicals on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at six o’ clock in the evening at Breese Stevens Field in Madison, Wisconsin.
“This weekend will be our toughest test of the season. We’ll have to continue to limit our mistakes against Madison. I could care less about Minnesota at this point just because we have to take care of business against Madison first. Madison will be out for blood, looking for revenge against us at their home. Against Madison, we’ll have to do a better job of capitalizing and taking advantage of defensive opportunities. We had some blocks literally slip through our fingertips. I think regardless, we have to come out with lots of energy for both games and focus on the defensive game plan Coach Woods and Leadership has for us,” said Von Alangiulan for the Chicago Union.
Through the first five weeks of the season, Radicals captain, Kevin Pettit-Scantling, has led the team to a 4-3 record as he currently leads the league in blocks with a total of 16 and is tied for fourth in goals with a total of 19.
“Kevin Pettit-Scantling (KPS) is incredibly explosive and his defensive IQ continues to rise year to year. We’ll want to be smart about where we allow them to have an impact on the field, keeping them out of the play when it helps us and taking advantage of times when they look to make a play off their matchup,” said Pat Shriwise, current Union player and former Madison Radical.
With that said, this is an important game for both the Madison Radicals and the Chicago Union with playoffs just around the corner. Chicago Union currently sits in first place in the Central Division with a 5-0 win/loss record and the Madison Radicals currently holding a record of 4-3.
“I think starting and finishing our games with high energy and intensity is key and we are working to make that part of our identity,” said Shriwise.
The Chicago Union will be taking on the Minnesota Wind Chill on Sunday, July 11, at two o’clock in the afternoon at Langhorst Field in Elmhurst, Illinois.
