CHICAGO—The Chicago Union’s electric 2025 UFA campaign came to a devastating end on Saturday with a 19-17 loss to  the Minnesota Wind Chill in the UFA Central Division Championship at Martin Stadium in Evanston.

This intense matchup between two UFA powerhouses was a tight one from the opening pull, with a 5-3 Union lead to close the first quarter. However, the Wind Chill proceeded to win the next three quarters by a combined +4 margin. While the Union played a solid game, Minnesota had the advantage in nearly every category: hucks, huck %, o-line conversion %, break %, red zone conversion %, blocks, and turnovers. One of the biggest disappointments in this loss was the number of times that Chicago turned the disc over.. The Union pride themselves on forcing turnovers and generating stops, forcing opposing teams’ O-lines to lose possession at a high clip. It has been a vital reason for their success during the regular season, so losing the turnover battle to Minnesota was one of the main reasons that Chicago is not heading to Madison for UFA Championship weekend.

The Union’s most productive player, Daan De Marrée, capped off his special rookie season with another stellar performance, tallying 466 total yards, 230 receiving yards, 236 throwing yards, five assists, two goals, two hockey assists, one block, and led Chicago in +/- with +5. Paul Arters also had a solid outing, with 466 total yards, three hockey assists, two assists, and one goal. However, both Arters and De Marrée led the Union in turnovers, an uncharacteristic stat for both of them, as they usually are consistent in maintaining possessions.. All around, it was a very uncharacteristic outing for the Union, and a heartbreaking way to end this outstanding season. However, co-head coaches Dave Woods and Charlie Furse and their captains can hold their heads high, as they orchestrated one of the most dynamic Union teams of all time.

The Chicago Union is forever grateful for the incredible fan support all season, and the fans’ excitement to be a part of something special the team is building on the Lakefront. Stay tuned, the 2026 spring will be here before you know it.
