After more than 600 days without playing a game, the Tampa Bay Cannons will return to the field this summer. The 2021 AUDL schedule has officially been announced; the Cannons will play a 12-game regular season from June to August, with the potential for playoff games in September. Cannons home opener will be played Saturday, June 12 at 6:05 PM/ET at 31st Street Sports Complex against the Pittsburgh Thunderbirds.
The Cannons enter the 2021 season playing in the new Atlantic Division. Due to Canadian border restrictions, New York and Boston have moved from the East Division into the now eight-team Atlantic Division, bringing new competition to Tampa Bay. Combined with divisional newcomers Philadelphia, DC and Pittsburgh, the Cannons will play several teams this season for the first time in franchise history.
In 2021 the Cannons will look to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2017. With eight teams in the division, the Atlantic yields four playoff spots, with two of the four teams advancing to AUDL Championship Weekend in September. Returning for the Cannons is 2019 AUDL All-Star Andrew Roney, who has quarterbacked the Cannons offense each the past three seasons. Reuniting with Roney this year is Bobby Ley, who played the 2019 season with the Raleigh Flyers after playing with the Cannons the three seasons prior. The duo will look to reignite their chemistry, as the Cannons take on the rest of the Atlantic as clear underdogs.
