The Toronto Rush are very excited to continue bolstering their coaching staff by adding Micheal Kukucska as an assistant coach.
Kukucska is no stranger to the Toronto ultimate scene, having founded and led the BOATCOAT ultimate program since 2015. There have been over 100 athletes, who have come through the program including Rush alumni Dan LaFrance (2018-2021).
The Toronto native has also coached the next generation of ultimate players. He helped coach in the Toronto Elites ultimate club from 2015-2017, winning gold with the boy’s team TORO in 2015. Many of those players Kukucska coached on that championship team have suited up for the Rush including Connor Armstrong (2017-2019), Mike Mackenzie (2016-Present), Jason Huynh (2016-Present), and Bretton Tan (2016-2019). Kukucska also helped found PRIDE, the York University open program and has coached that team since 2018.
His knowledge of the different players within the city will be an added strength for the Rush coaching staff as they look to create a roster that is successful in the AUDL for years to come.
“It's really special to me to go from being a fresh-faced Founders Club season ticket holder in 2013 to actually being on the field as a coach representing our city,” said Kukucska. “A lot of the players on the team are people that I've had the privilege to coach in the past while they were rising the junior or university ranks. I'm very excited to work with them again as well as with the rest of the coaching staff to bring the AUDL Championship back home to Toronto.”
The Rush are excited to get back to an AUDL schedule that will include teams throughout the East Division. Stay tuned to all the tryout and preseason updates by following the Toronto Rush on social media.
