Post Game Recap: Atlanta Loses in Hard Fought Match vs New York

June 13 2023

By: Wyeth Coombs

Atlanta suffered a tough loss to the New York Empire on Saturday. The Hustle struggled to contain star players Ryan Osgar and Jeff Babbitt throughout the game. Osgar had a whopping 9 assists for New York, while Babbitt added 355 receiving yards and 4 goals for the Empire. New York took the lead early in the first quarter, and Atlanta played catch up from there. Austin Taylor and Matt Smith  had solid performances for the Hustle offense. Matt  put up 236 receiving yards with 3 goals, and Austin had a team high 4 goals and threw for 337 yards with 49 completions. Callahan Award winner Justin Burnett  made a big impact on defense with two blocks and did a great job locking down Jack Williams throughout the game. While the outcome was not what the Hustle hoped for, their effort in the second half kept them in a game that could have turned into a blowout. A few costly errors in the fourth quarter cost them a chance to cut it to a one point game. If they clean up the mistakes, the talent and hard work from the Hustle will be able to compete with the top of the AUDL.
