The Raleigh Radiance are here! In 2018 the Flyers will have an affiliate women’s team that will be competing against the Nashville Nightshade and potentially other affiliate women’s teams within the AUDL. The initial concept for the Radiance was born during the offseason through discussions between local leaders from Raleigh Phoenix and Durham Toro with the Flyers ownership.
“The Raleigh Flyers management and local women leaders in the Triangle area have spent many hours discussing the potential of such a team and the opportunities we all want to provide women players,” said Raleigh Phoenix captain and UNC Pleiades head coach Jessi Jones.
Jones who has been an integral part the triangle ultimate scene worked very hard with representatives of the various women’s and mixed programs and the Flyers to help turn the vision of women’s professional ultimate opportunity into a reality.

The Radiance intend to represent the strong women’s programs across the state and as such players will apply and be selected by the Radiance coaching staff who will also be receiving input from women’s ultimate community members in the triangle.
The Radiance have two games slated against the Nashville Nightshade scheduled for April 21st away in Nashville and June 16 at home in Raleigh. Fans will have access to both home games through the purchase of a single ticket for the Radiance or Flyers and will have the opportunity to enjoy an excellent night of ultimate.
“This is just the beginning of opening up more opportunities to women in sports,” commented Jones. “The Radiance will be the first ultimate team in North Carolina to offer a professional player experience to women ultimate players.”
Applications will remain open until March 24th at which point the team will enter into its selection process.
