The Carolina Flyers look to extend their two-game winning streak in a divisional match up against the Atlanta Hustle this Saturday, 7 p.m. at Durham County Memorial Stadium. The game takes place as the second half of a pro ultimate double-header in Durham as the PUL’s Raleigh Radiance host their season finale earlier in the afternoon. The Flyers and Hustle are set to meet for the third time this year, the first in North Carolina, and Atlanta leads the season series 2-0 so far.
However, those were not typical games played down in Atlanta. The majority of the first and all of the second game were played as a double-header after the Flyers’ season opener was suspended due to lightning. Atlanta got the better of the Flyers twice that day, and Flyers will be hungry for revenge since then.
The fortunes of Atlanta and Carolina could not have been more different across the first month or so of the season. Atlanta rocketed off to a 6-0 start, while Carolina was winless, sitting at 0-4. But last weekend, things changed for both teams. Carolina went on a Pennsylvania road trip and took care of both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in controlled fashion. While Atlanta toured the central division, playing Minnesota and Chicago, dropping both games. Their opposing momentum provides a perfect opportunity for the Flyers to reinsert themselves into playoff conversations in the South Division with a win.
It won’t be easy, though, as the Hustle have beaten this team twice already, and will be hungry to get back to their winning ways. The keys for the Flyers will be playing the Hustle in front of their home crowd for the first time, as well as continuing to improve their ability to generate blocks, which they made big strides towards last weekend.
