Roughnecks Set to Return to the Field in June

May 20, 2021

After more than 600 days without playing a game, the Dallas Roughnecks of the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) will return to the field this summer. The 2021 AUDL schedule has officially been announced; the Roughnecks will play a 12-game regular season from June to August, with the potential for playoff games in September. The Roughnecks home opener is Saturday, June 5 at 7:30 PM/CT at John Paul II High School against the Austin Sol.

The Roughnecks enter the 2021 season playing in the new West Division. They’ll compete against the Austin Sol, Los Angeles Aviators, San Diego Growlers, San Jose Spiders, and Seattle Cascades. The Roughnecks have Championship Weekend history against two of these teams; in 2016 they defeated the Cascades in the AUDL Championship Game, and in 2019 they defeated the Growlers in the semifinals.

The Roughnecks are well-positioned to make the playoffs and hope to return to Championship Weekend for the fifth consecutive season. This offseason they robbed their Texas rivals of top talent, adding former Austin Sol players Kyle Henke, Chase Cunningham, and Michael Matthis among others. Retaining the majority of the roster from their 2019 finals appearance, the Roughnecks will look forward to two regular season rematches with the San Diego Growlers, who have added several big-name players of their own. As the lone division with two Championship Weekend teams from 2019, the Dallas vs. San Diego storyline is undoubtedly the one to watch in the West.
