Entering their third year as a franchise, the Dallas Roughnecks have named Matt Jackson, Dan Emmons, and Dalton Smith as their team captains for the 2018 season. All three players have been major contributors to the Roughnecks since day one, and all three won a championship with the team in 2016. Dallas is looking to return to the title game after losing to Toronto in the 2017 semifinals.

While Jackson suffered a major arm injury at the beginning of the 2017 that derailed much of his production, he still only missed two of the team's 16 games and was an active defender throughout the season. Jackson earned All-AUDL Defense Team recognition in 2016 for his stellar play. Another shutdown defender, Emmons also made the league's All Defense team in 2016 with 27 blocks. He has made a name for himself defending deep space with his large frame, racking up 42 blocks over the course of his two seasons with the Roughnecks. Smith had a breakout season in 2017. Despite still being one of the youngest players on the roster, Smith combined his athleticism and skill as a thrower to punish defenses, throwing a team-high 36 assists while also reeling in 26 goals. Smith threw a franchise record eight assists in a win over Atlanta last May 21.
