Wildfire to Change Name - Vote Now in the Name Change Bracket

by Ashley Kouba

After months of planning the Chicago Wildfire are eager to announce the decision to change our team name prior to the 2021 AUDL season. Voting on the new name begins now in our Name Change Bracket via the link below.

The Chicago Wildfire was originally established in 2013 as the Windy City Wildfire before switching to the Chicago Wildfire in 2014. Team Owners CJ O’Brien and Patrick O’Brien point to a couple different reasons behind the decision to change the name.

“The name made more sense with the alliteration when the team debuted in 2013 as the Windy City Wildfire,” said CJ O’Brien, managing partner for the team, “but we’re often confused with the Chicago Fire (an MLS team and a TV show), and to my knowledge there are no naturally occurring wildfires in Chicago.”

The Name Change Bracket features the top eight (8) name finalists as decided on by the owners and players. Those possible new names include Chicago Blues, Chicago Grid, Chicago Style, Chicago Chaos, Chicago Goats, Chicago Elite, Chicago Lakefront and Chicago Union.

You can cast your vote once per round starting today. Voting for the first round will commence on Monday, August 10 at 10:00am CT.
