The AUDL family is deeply saddened to share the news of a tragic car accident involving three members of the Detroit Mechanix on Saturday, February 29. Michael Cannon, Kevin Coulter, and Drew Piet were killed in this horrendous event, and left a wake that has saddened the entire ultimate community. We wish to send our deepest sympathies and love to the families and friends who have been impacted, and our support to all the players, staff, and members of the Detroit Mechanix.
The following is a message from the Grand Rapids Ultimate community.
Dear GRU Family,
It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you this evening to inform you that two members of our community were lost this weekend. For those of you that have not yet heard, Drew Piet, and Kevin Coulter (Sass) were involved in a fatal accident on Saturday Evening, Michael Cannon, who was also in the accident has also passed.
As a community we are all still in shock at the unfair passing of these remarkable individuals, and would like to offer as much help and support as we can to the families and players that have been effected by this terrible tragedy.
We will be hosting a small memorial gathering tomorrow Monday, March 2nd, at MSA Woodland beginning at 8 PM, please come join us in celebrating the lives of these amazing individuals, being around friends and playing the sport that they loved.
In addition tomorrow the staff at Sparrow Hospital will be taking Drew through the celebration of life as he is transitioned from the hospital for donor activities. Drew's mom has welcomed anyone from the ultimate community to come join the family at the hospital at 2 P.M. March 2nd to help walk Drew through his celebration of life.
